Drooping eyelid surgery: how the surgery works

Drooping eyelid surgery

Surgery for droopy eyelids it is a cosmetic surgery operation that is applied to men and women. Its scientific name is blepharoplasty and has the task of eliminating aesthetic defects in the eye contour area.

The operation simply eliminates the layer of fat that can accumulate in the lower or upper part of the eyelids (or both).

In some cases, the intervention does not only have an aesthetic purpose. In fact, there are people who, due to the weight of their eyelids, they have reduced visibility and a worse quality of life. The surgery therefore restores the ability to see well and return to a better quality of life.

The techniques for Drooping eyelid surgery are different available to the cosmetic surgeon. The professional has the task of choosing the best one for the person, given that it is not a zero-risk intervention. Here's everything you need to know.

Surgery for droopy eyelids: does it hurt?

The surgery is painless and does not hurt. It has no absolute contraindications, that is for all cases, but a preliminary visit to the cosmetic surgeon is needed to avoid potential risks and reduce any complications in the post-operative course.

In general, if the same person has had Botox recently, there is no excess skin or there is no physical fat to be eliminated in the ocular area, the procedure is directly advised against by the specialist doctor.

There are alternatives to Drooping eyelids surgery or surgery for drooping eyelids. Those who cannot have blepharoplasty can request plasma surgery or non-surgical blepharoplasty. This technique uses laser and acts as a non-invasive technique. It consists of several sessions and the person has a more manageable post-operative course.

Drooping eyelid surgery: how to prepare for the surgery

Without a preliminary visit to ascertain the initial conditions of the eyelids, the surgery cannot be prepared and therefore cannot proceed. As a specialist doctor, I realize that a blepharoplasty is needed when:

  • there is fat in the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid (bags under the eyes), or both;
  • there is excess skin on the eyelid;
  • there are some bumps in the eye contour area.

In addition, I ask the patient for valid documentation to take a clinical history. Then, I will ask what medicines the patient takes or if there are any particular pathologies.

For patients, we ask you to come to the studio without make-up, to understand the real situation of your eyelids and proceed in the best way. In case of anticoagulant drugs, these must be replaced during the operation.

After the operation, the person must stay in hospital for about a week, which is necessary for the wounds from the operation to be sutured. In this early post-operative phase, there may be swelling in the affected area or bleeding. There is no need to worry, because adequate therapy is followed and everything resolves within a few days.

The person can then return home and will be able to have check-ups with a specialist doctor. For the Drooping eyelid surgery, up to 30 days after the operation, the doctor may prescribe a cream to eliminate swelling and promote healing. The result is extraordinary. The eyelids are younger, without accumulations of fat, for a more intense and harmonious look.

Drooping eyelid surgery: the costs

The cost for the Drooping eyelid surgery it depends on several factors. In fact, it is important to understand whether an anesthetist is needed or not, not to mention the absolutely necessary hospitalization times.

In general, the intervention has a variable cost between 700 and 1000 euros per eyelid, without counting the check-ups to check the post-operative progress.

It is important to understand that the operation concerns one's health and that the standards imposed by current legislation cannot be ignored in order to operate as best as possible and reduce recovery times to a minimum.

The planning of the intervention and every aspect of it they should absolutely not be left to chance. For this reason, I follow my patients from the first visit to check the condition of the eyelids until the end of the post-operative course.

In addition to providing all the information relating to the operation, we will evaluate together which methods and techniques are best for you.
